Say whaaaaaat? While there is nothing gourmet or unique about this pizza, it has all the essential components (dough, sauce, cheese, grease.) Fresh pizzas fly out of the oven faster then you can say ‘WhatcanIgetforadollar.’ The line is long, but it moves quickly, so there’s no time for the pies to dry out under the heat-lamps and become infected with air-born pathogens. Take it to go, or have a seat and mingle with the homeless (no offense to my homeless readers), but whichever way you look at it, this is the best bang for your buck. I give major props to the owners for opening a location kitty-corner to their biggest competitor ‘99 Cents Fresh Pizza’ on 41st, who recently added the tagline “1.07 including tax.” I’d rather pay $2, and slough the .93 for convenience. You make me sick, ‘99 Cents Fresh Pizza,’ we’re through! Don’t even bother texting me, you cheap false advertising pizza hoe!

59 Chelsea Piers (At w20th)
Time: Saturdays
Price: Free tour and beer samples, $3 pints.

On most Saturdays, Chelsea Brewing Company, Manhattan’s only operating brewery, gives free tours. I recently took a tour led by Ian, whose position is, no joke, ‘Beer Ambassador.’ I’ve at different points in my life considered myself a whiskey ambassador, a boxed wine ambassador, and once when I was a young lad even a Smirnoff ice ambassador. But I had no idea that you could get paid for this. (Wheels turning/ reassessing my career path.) On the tour you learn all sorts of useful information, how beer is made, ales vs. lagers, blah blah blah. More importantly, you learn what it is like to taste freshly brewed beer, which is pretty amazing. Also at the end the tour, you get a stack of tickets for half-off all pints (which come to $3). They have an outdoor deck right on the water, which is spectacular during the summer. Apparently their lease is up in the next couple years, so go enjoy the only beer brewed on this little island of ours while you can!

You’d let the sexy Australian staff at this cow-printed billabong put their shrimp on your barbie, if you know what I mean… This crimson-pigmented bovine features an unbelievable $10 counter-meal (appetizer, entrée, dessert) every Sunday. Appetizer standards include the fried calamari and the green salad. Entrees are anything from a lamb-burger to barramundi to classic bangers ‘n mash. On top of that, cocktails are only $4, and so delicious that they will make you forget Nicole Kidman’s plastic surgery-gone-wrong. It’s a cozy and hip hangout for sheilas and sheepshaggers alike.

Question: How special is lunch at Earth NYC? Answer: As special as you want it to be. The lunch menu features half-off of all menu items, so unlike many lunch specials, you can order more or less depending how hungry you feel. You are seated on plush pillows in a large room with absurdly high ceilings, upbeat music and a massive video screen. This modern Indian restaurant could easily turn into a rave at a moment’s notice. ‘Lollipops’ were my appetizer; a scrumptious chicken wing with meat cut off so it looked like a lollipop. I ordered naan bread and my favorite Indian entrée, Zafrani Rogan Josh, a lamb dish that definitely did not disappoint. My bill came to about $20 including tip. It’s definitely not the cheapest special you’ll find here, but great food and ambience for a great value.
